The Refuge Center for Counseling was one of three national nonprofit organizations recognized by the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation at the Teammates for Kids Appreciation Party in Las Vegas December 12-13. The celebrations included a formal video presentation on the Refuge Center before a crowd of 600 people; appearances by Jay Leno; and sports celebrities and a live concert by Garth Brooks with an audience of 4,000 guests, including 600 professional athletes in the Colosseum of Caesars Palace. The Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, founded in 1999 in the State of Colorado, contributes financial resources to selected non-profit organizations that effectively serve and benefit children. The Foundation enlists the participation of professional baseball, hockey, and football players.
"Teammates for Kids has been an extraordinary blessing to The Refuge Center,” says Amy Alexander, Executive Director of the The Refuge Center for Counseling. “Funds from their Foundation allowed us to expand our Children's Program and to create a space specifically designed for Play Therapy. The Refuge Center was truly honored to be recognized at the Teammates Vegas Appreciation Party. Every moment from the weekend was memorable and exciting. To have our agency receive recognition at a national event, and to have that recognition be coming from such a renowned and respected Foundation as Teammates for Kids was thrilling. We are humbled, honored and extremely grateful for having had this opportunity."
